Medical experts are highlighting potential health risks associated with the use of GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist weight loss injections. While these medications are effective for treating obesity by reducing appetite and slowing gastric emptying, improper use can lead to significant complications.

Regarding dental health, the term ‘Ozempic teeth’ has emerged on social media to describe issues like tooth decay, sensitivity, and enamel erosion. While not a formal medical diagnosis, experts note that side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, and vomiting can indirectly damage teeth. Vomiting, in particular, exposes enamel to stomach acid, which can cause irreversible erosion. Dentists advise rinsing with water after vomiting rather than brushing immediately to avoid further damage.

Other systemic risks include rapid weight loss that may lead to muscle and bone loss, hair loss, and skin sagging. Common gastrointestinal side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, and bloating. Experts warn that individuals with certain medical histories, such as specific types of thyroid cancer, should avoid these drugs, and emphasize that the medication should only be used under medical supervision alongside lifestyle changes.
