Health risks of smoking, vaping, and nicotine pouches compared

Health experts and researchers are highlighting the varying risks associated with nicotine consumption methods, including smoking, vaping, and nicotine pouches. Dr. Rayyan Zafar, a neuropsychopharmacologist at Imperial College and senior researcher at Drug Science, states that cigarettes are the most harmful option by a large margin. This is primarily due to combustion, which produces carbon monoxide, fine particles, and numerous carcinogens linked to various cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

While vaping and nicotine pouches avoid the toxic chemicals produced by burning tobacco, they are not considered benign. Vaping may still expose users to fine particles, metals, and flavoring-related chemicals. Additionally, understanding nicotine strength is critical for users, as labels can vary between measuring nicotine per pouch or per gram. Higher strengths deliver more intense effects, and users are advised to choose levels that match their tolerance to manage potential side effects.
