Health services and coverage updates for breast health
In the Dominican Republic, specialist Dr. Juan Miguel Cedano stated that breast reduction surgeries for both men and women may be covered by health insurance administrators (ARS). Coverage is possible when there is a medical justification, such as symptomatic mammary hypertrophy, gigantomastia, or gynecomastia, which can cause chronic pain in the back, neck, and shoulders. Approval depends on medical documentation, specific health plan conditions, and insurer authorization.
In Connecticut, a state program provides free mammograms to women without health insurance or with limited coverage to facilitate early cancer detection. The Connecticut Department of Public Health connects low-income residents with providers for screenings and diagnostic tests. Over the last five years, more than 16,000 free mammograms have been performed through this initiative. Additionally, Hartford Hospital operates a mobile unit called Take the Time, which offers free exams to uninsured women during October.
