Health services in Chile and Mexico implement specialized staff training

The Arica y Parinacota Health Service (SSAP) in Chile conducted training for primary healthcare workers focused on providing inclusive and non-discriminatory care for the LGBTIQ+ community. Held on August 18 and 19, the program aimed to integrate human rights, gender, and sexual diversity perspectives into medical practices to respect the dignity and identity of all patients.

In Mexico, the Secretariat of Health has trained 1,320 officials from 23 municipalities through the Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP). This initiative, based on a World Health Organization framework, targets non-specialized personnel in medicine, nursing, psychology, and social work. The training covers critical areas such as depression, psychosis, epilepsy, substance use, and suicide prevention to improve early identification and intervention in regions with limited specialized mental health resources.
