Health systems delay adoption of Epic AI tools

Major health systems are exercising caution regarding the adoption of new artificial intelligence tools developed by Epic. While Epic offers various AI solutions, such as Art for clinicians and Emmie for patients, some institutions are prioritizing established user experiences and specific technological needs over platform consolidation.

St. Luke’s Health System is currently piloting Epic’s Chart with Art but continues to utilize Ambience Healthcare’s product for ambient documentation. The system’s leadership stated they will only transition to Epic’s tools once they match the maturity and capability of their current solutions to avoid a regression in clinician experience.

Similarly, Penn Medicine is delaying the use of Epic’s Emmie tool. The seven-hospital system is currently relying on Ambience Healthcare and internally developed applications for chart summarization. Penn Medicine is also planning a complete redesign of its patient engagement technology, intending to evaluate which tools best align with their future clinical and patient experience goals.
