Health tips for managing heavy legs and improving lymphatic circulation

Symptoms of heavy legs often include swelling in the feet and ankles, tingling, cramps, or the appearance of fine red vessels, which may indicate veno-lymphatic insufficiency or chronic venous disease.

Causes for these sensations include genetics—where having parents with venous insufficiency increases risk by over 50%—and sedentary lifestyles. Management strategies include physical activity, professional lymphatic drainage massages, or self-massage using upward pressure toward the heart.

A method known as "lymphatic walking" can also support the lymphatic system. Unlike blood, which is pumped by the heart, lymph relies on body movement. Experts Petra Gospic and Rebecca Faria suggest that walking with deep breathing, upright posture, and natural arm movements can use muscle contractions to compress lymphatic vessels and improve fluid circulation.
