Health workers in Bolivia demand unpaid vaccination bonuses
Health workers in the departments of Potosí and Tarija, along with workers in five other departments, have declared a state of emergency due to the non-payment of their annual vaccination bonuses. The benefit is intended for personnel with ministerial positions, and the amount is calculated based on years of service.
In Potosí, more than 600 workers are awaiting payment from the Ministry of Health. While staff funded by the General National Treasury (TGN) and the HIPIC program have already received their bonuses via the Governor's office, those with ministerial items remain unpaid. Leaders have expressed concern that the broader economic crisis is also affecting the availability of medical supplies and medicines.
In Tarija, labor representatives reported that administrative attempts to resolve the issue have failed. Consequently, workers in some regions have initiated pressure measures, including marches and staggered strikes of 24 and 48 hours. Health sector representatives are seeking a dialogue with the Minister of Health to address the outstanding payments.
