Health workers in Republic of Congo suspend general strike

Health workers across the Republic of Congo have agreed to suspend an unlimited general strike, with instructions issued for staff to return to their posts on the morning of Thursday, October 15. The decision to pause the industrial action follows the payment of two months of salaries and the resumption of negotiations between the government and the sector’s federal intersyndicale.

The intersyndicale, which includes the FENASAS and FESYTRASAS federations, announced the suspension following two days of talks at the Palais des Congrès in Brazzaville. While the strike is on hold, the core disputes regarding labor demands remain under negotiation.

Key issues driving the labor unrest include professional grade promotions, base salary mechanization, the effective alignment of professional risk premiums, and the implementation of a hospital civil service. The pause serves as a temporary measure rather than a final settlement of these grievances.
