Healthcare developments and organ donation awareness in Brazil

In Brazil, new healthcare developments and awareness initiatives are being highlighted. At Hospital Ferreira Machado (HFM), Mayor Frederico Paes inaugurated a new surgical center on the fifth floor. This expansion is designed to increase the capacity for elective surgeries, allowing the hospital's first-floor surgical center to be reserved exclusively for urgent and emergency procedures. The new facility includes high-technology equipment, such as a microscope, aimed at reducing the need to transfer patients to Rio de Janeiro.

In Paraná, the Afonso Pena Airport is hosting the ‘Histórias de Transplantes’ exhibition to mark ‘Setembro Verde’, a month dedicated to organ donation awareness. The exhibit features 5,000 origami ‘tsurus’ representing the number of people currently waiting for organ or tissue transplants in the state. The initiative is supported by Hospital Angelina Caron, which has performed over 3,400 transplants since 2001. Paraná currently maintains one of the highest organ donor rates in Brazil.
