Healthcare developments in Mozambique and Portugal

Medical students from the Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM) are participating in a rural internship program across the Sofala province. The initiative, which includes students from General Medicine and Nursing, aims to immerse learners in the social, epidemiological, and cultural realities of local communities. The second stage of the 2026 program involves 43 students distributed among health units in the districts of Búzi, Nhamatanda, and Gorongosa.

In Portugal, the Santa Maria Innovation Days 2026 took place at the University of Lisbon's Faculty of Medicine, focusing on digital transformation in healthcare. The event featured Portuguese Health Minister Ana Paula Martins, who emphasized innovation as a pillar for the National Health Service (SNS). Discussions centered on the strategic vision of the Santa Maria Local Health Unit (ULSSM), highlighting the use of Artificial Intelligence, digital clinical documentation, and data infrastructure to improve efficiency and patient care.
