Healthcare diagnostic services see expansion in Sligo amid rising waiting lists in Monaghan
Healthcare services in Ireland are seeing both expansions and significant challenges regarding diagnostic imaging. In the West and North West, Sligo University Hospital has introduced a new CT Angiography (CTA) service. This advanced imaging technique, which uses contrast dye to produce detailed images of the heart and blood vessels, allows patients to receive specialist cardiac imaging locally rather than traveling to Dublin.
Conversely, in the Cavan and Monaghan region, there are growing concerns regarding CT scan waiting lists. Recent figures indicate that the number of people awaiting CT examinations in the area has increased by approximately 14% in six months, rising from 892 in January to 1,015 in August. Local representatives have called for the installation of a CT scanner at Monaghan Hospital to utilize existing infrastructure and staff to relieve pressure on Cavan General Hospital.
