Healthcare facilities in Sierra Leone and Ghana launch transport initiatives

Connaught Teaching Hospital in Sierra Leone has introduced free transportation buses for its staff. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health, aims to alleviate commuting challenges for healthcare workers, particularly nurses and middle-level staff living in the eastern and western parts of Freetown. Hospital management reported that the buses have improved staff punctuality, attendance, and morale, while also ensuring workers arrive for shifts in a professional manner.

In Ghana, the Ho Teaching Hospital is launching a free internal shuttle service for patients to improve mobility within its 322-bed facility. The service, which begins operation on November 2, will initially utilize two tricycles donated by the Volta Regional Minister. The initiative addresses the difficulty elderly patients and those with limited mobility face when navigating long distances between hospital departments and entrances.
