Healthcare facilities in Venezuela and Peru face critical supply and infrastructure shortages

Reports from Venezuela and Peru highlight critical deficiencies in healthcare infrastructure and medical supplies.

In Venezuela, the Doctor Rafael Calles Sierra Hospital in the Paraguaná Peninsula is facing severe deterioration. Reports indicate a lack of air conditioning in hospitalization areas, non-functional bathrooms, water shortages, and a lack of ambulances. Patients have reported being required to provide their own medical supplies and anesthetics for procedures such as C-sections. Additionally, a citizen who documented these conditions on social media reported receiving threats of detention.

In Peru, a fiscal investigation at the Hospital Nacional de la Policía Luis N. Sáenz in Jesús María revealed that pharmaceutical availability is at only 36.24%. The inspection by the First Prosecutor's Office for Crime Prevention identified limited supplies of medicines and medical devices, inoperable air conditioning, expired fire extinguishers, and poor storage practices. The hospital has been ordered to submit a detailed report on corrective measures within 30 days.
