Healthcare in Cartagena sees technological growth and staffing demands
Healthcare services in Cartagena are facing both technological advancements and staffing challenges. The Santa María del Rosell University General Hospital has inaugurated a new Advanced Clinical Simulation and Biomedical Engineering Unit. Spanning approximately 600 square meters, this facility is designed for professional training, clinical trials, and the development of medical technology, allowing staff to practice complex clinical scenarios in controlled environments.
Simultaneously, local political group Sí Cartagena is demanding full-time medical staff for rural areas and smaller districts. Spokesperson Torralba criticized the practice of sharing professionals between different clinics, noting that doctors and nurses often travel between locations during a single shift, which reduces available patient care time. The group highlighted the Alumbres clinic as an example, where limited hours for pediatricians and doctors affect service quality, particularly for elderly residents.
