Healthcare infrastructure developments in Vasto and San Gavino

Construction plans and funding disputes are shaping the development of new healthcare facilities in Italy. In Vasto, work on a new hospital in Pozzitiello is scheduled to begin next year. The project has a total budget of approximately 149.6 million euros, funded by the State, the Region, and the local health authority (Asl). Eleven companies have submitted bids for the contract, and a separate procedure for technical direction and safety coordination is underway to ensure integrated emergency and diagnostic services.

In San Gavino, the construction of a 250-bed hospital has reached 80 percent completion but faces potential delays. The contractor, Fincantieri Finso, has requested an additional 14 million euros beyond the initial 68 million euros in funding. Regional President Alessandra Todde has rejected the request, stating the administration will not yield to demands not supported by technical assessments. Local officials and unions have expressed concern that a halt in construction would negatively impact the Medio Campidano territory.
