Healthcare initiatives launch to improve pain management in Cuba and Spain

New initiatives to improve pain management and multidisciplinary care are being implemented in Matanzas, Cuba, and the Valencian Community, Spain.

In Matanzas, a new multidisciplinary service for acute and chronic pain is scheduled to begin consultations in September. Initially based at the Oncology Hospital, the project will expand to include interventional procedures. The service will feature a team of neurosurgeons, orthopedists, and traumatologists, alongside specialists in natural and traditional medicine. Treatment methods will include ozonotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, acupuncture, and electrotherapy. The initiative is a research project from the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas and aims to support humanized childbirth by providing analgesia during labor.

In the Valencian Community, the Ministry of Health has developed an Integral and Interdisciplinary Plan for Pain Care. This framework focuses on prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment across all life stages. The plan addresses the significant impact of chronic pain, which affects approximately 26.1% of the adult population in the region. The strategy emphasizes continuity of care and coordination between primary and hospital-level resources to better manage the psychological and professional impacts of chronic pain.
