Healthcare integrity concerns raised over list manipulation and privacy breaches
Reports have emerged regarding systemic issues in Spanish healthcare management. At Madrid’s Hospital Ramón y Cajal, allegations surfaced concerning the manipulation of surgical waiting lists. It is suggested that these lists were modified based on personal financial gain rather than medical necessity, potentially allowing staff to collect productivity bonuses.
In Andalusia, concerns were raised regarding surgeons working for private entities in the afternoons after completing public sector shifts. This practice allegedly created a paradox where surgeons contributed to public waiting lists during morning hours only to profit from reducing those same lists through private or subcontracted work.
Separately, the Hospital de Jove has removed an employee from their duties after they improperly accessed dozens of patient medical records without medical justification. While an investigation found no evidence that the data was leaked to third parties, the hospital has notified the affected patients and committed to increased training and preventive measures to protect patient privacy.
