Global healthcare systems implement new technologies and digital reforms
Various regional health systems are implementing technological advancements and infrastructure improvements. In Spain, the Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII has introduced endoscopic pulmonary cryobiopsy, a minimally invasive technique using extreme cold to obtain high-quality tissue samples for diagnosing interstitial lung diseases.
In Argentina, several provinces are modernizing their healthcare. Río Negro is launching a digital transformation project supported by a US$60 million Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan to expand telehealth and AI-driven diagnostics. Mendoza has also increased its budget to execute a digital transformation project funded by an US$85 million IDB loan. In Formosa, the Hospital de Alta Complejidad has successfully performed its first ecoendoscopy procedure, allowing for non-surgical tumor management. Additionally, Santa Fe is providing new surgical and anesthesia equipment to the SAMCo in San Justo.
In Chile, the Hospital de Santa Cruz has inaugurated new endoscopy and colonoscopy facilities, while the municipality of Algarrobo has invested over $126 million in new medical transport vehicles. In the Dominican Republic, the El Valle Regional Health Management is renovating and equipping primary care centers in various communities. In Peru, the Hospital Hermilio Valdizán has introduced 'Dr. Huellita,' a WhatsApp-based virtual assistant to facilitate appointment management and patient follow-ups.
