PAMI medical professionals strike over fee disputes

Medical and dental professionals providing services to PAMI, Argentina’s largest social security organization for retirees, have launched a 72-hour nationwide strike. The protest, which runs until Friday, October 2, targets the current remuneration system and seeks a significant increase in capitation payments.

According to the Association of Professionals of the Integral Medical Care Program and Affiliates (APPAMIA), the conflict stems from Resolution 1107, which changed the payment structure in April. Professionals argue that the current rate of $2,100 per affiliate is insufficient to cover the costs of medical consultations, prescriptions, and administrative tasks. While PAMI has offered an increase to $3,000 per capita, medical groups have rejected the proposal as inadequate, requesting rates as high as $4,000.

The strike involves the rescheduling of routine appointments, though emergency services and the provision of essential prescriptions remain operational to protect patient health. In regions like Mendoza, the crisis is exacerbated by professionals leaving the system due to contract terminations, further straining care for the elderly population.
