Healthcare providers implement improved pain management and palliative care practices
Healthcare institutions in Chile and Spain are enhancing their approaches to pain management and palliative care through multidisciplinary efforts and standardized clinical guidelines.
In Quilpué, Chile, the Palliative Care Unit at the Hospital de Quilpué is working to strengthen patient support during the transition to the Marga Marga Provincial Hospital. The unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team—including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and social workers—to address ‘total pain,’ a concept that encompasses physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions to improve patient quality of life.
In Talavera de la Reina, Spain, the Integrated Care Management of Talavera, under the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service (SESCAM), is extending a ‘Best Practice Guide’ for pain assessment and management. This initiative, part of the international Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) program, aims to homogenize care across hospital, physiotherapy, and primary care levels by using evidence-based clinical recommendations.
