Healthcare restructuring planned in Vorarlberg and Lower Austria
Medical services in Vorarlberg and Lower Austria are undergoing significant reorganization to improve specialization and patient care.
In Vorarlberg, the maternity and pediatric departments in Dornbirn are scheduled to relocate to Bregenz by 2030 at the latest. Medical directors, including Christian Huemer and Michael Rohde, aim to implement an international care concept that allows mothers and critically ill newborns to remain together. This approach emphasizes skin contact and parental involvement to reduce stress and improve health outcomes for infants.
In Lower Austria, the Health Plan 2040+ is restructuring clinics in the Thermenregion, including Baden, Mödling, and Wiener Neustadt. Under this plan, neurology will move from Mödling to Baden, while urology will relocate to Mödling, which will be equipped with robotic surgery technology by 2027. Wiener Neustadt is designated to become the state’s second central clinic. The plan also includes expanding primary care units and outpatient clinics to relieve hospital pressure.
