Healthcare service improvements launched in Norrbotten and Alberga

In Norrbotten, Sweden, a new nursing network is being established to strengthen cooperation between primary and specialist care. Led by specialist nurse Stina Selberg, the network, titled ‘general nurse consultants’, aims to improve coordination and develop common working methods across regional health centers. The model is inspired by a system used in Denmark and previously implemented in parts of Sweden, designed to identify coordination issues and propose improvements to healthcare delivery.

In Finland, the Western Uusimaa welfare area is introducing a new service point in Alberga to enhance healthcare access. Starting September 1, 2026, approximately 5,000 residents will be transitioned to the Lähilääkärit Alberga service point located in the Sello shopping center. This initiative utilizes a family doctor model where a specific doctor and nurse work as a pair to ensure continuity of care and long-term patient relationships. The goal of the welfare area is to ensure all residents have access to a family doctor by 2030.
