Healthcare shifts toward medicine of differences to improve equity

The healthcare sector is shifting focus from traditional gender medicine toward a more comprehensive approach known as the medicine of differences. This evolution, highlighted at the Welfair exhibition in Rome, suggests that distinguishing solely between biological sex and age is no longer sufficient for effective care.

Experts, including Anna Maria Moretti of the Italian and International Society of Gender Medicine, emphasize that social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors are essential indicators for developing efficient healthcare systems. Integrating these diverse data points is considered vital for ensuring equitable, inclusive, and appropriate prevention and treatment strategies.

In Russi, local institutions including the AUSL Romagna and the Municipality of Russi are hosting public meetings to deepen community understanding of how gender and individual differences influence diagnosis, prevention, and access to health services. These initiatives aim to foster dialogue between professionals and the community regarding health equity.
