Healthcare shortages and equipment needs raised in Lecce

A delegation from the Comitato Territoriale Spontaneo met with Gianluca Capochiani, the Director General of Asl Lecce, to discuss critical healthcare shortages in the Maglie, Martano, and Poggiardo districts.

A primary concern is the continuity of care at the Center for Congenital Hemorrhagic Diseases and Coagulation. The committee warned that the imminent retirement of the current head, combined with the fact that the center currently employs only one physician, threatens the stability of the service. They have requested additional medical staff, specialized nurses, and a manager for epidemiological registries to ensure a smooth transition of expertise.

Additionally, the committee called for the enhancement of Scorrano Hospital. Key requests include the full utilization of its facilities and the installation of an MRI machine to improve local diagnostic capabilities and resolve territorial service disputes.
