Healthcare systems face financial and staffing crises in Honduras and Argentina
Healthcare institutions in Honduras and Argentina are facing significant operational challenges due to financial and structural issues.
In Honduras, Blanca Munguía of the Asociación para una Sociedad más Justa (ASJ) has warned that the potential purchase of a hospital to alleviate congestion at the Hospital Escuela poses a high risk to public finances. Munguía criticized the lack of transparency regarding costs and planning, urging authorities to prioritize completing hospitals currently under construction rather than implementing temporary measures.
In Argentina, the Hospital Nacional de Salud Mental Laura Bonaparte is experiencing a severe crisis following a budget reduction of approximately 44 percent compared to 2023. Leonardo Camacho, a delegate for ATE, reported massive staff losses, including 60 percent of psychiatrists and 80 percent of clinical doctors. The cuts have led to the cessation of community outreach programs and the impending closure of the Interdisciplinary Residency in Mental Health, impacting both patient care and professional training.
