Healthcare technology advances with AI integration and robotic blood sampling

Artificial intelligence is evolving from a simple information tool into a technology capable of managing entire patient journeys. According to an analysis in Nature Health, major tech companies are integrating AI systems with healthcare infrastructure, including medical data, appointment scheduling, pharmacy services, and payment systems.

New systems such as ChatGPT Health, Amazon Health AI, Ant Group’s Afu, and Claude for Healthcare aim to assist with symptom interpretation, appointment booking, and navigating complex medical processes. This integration is designed to help patients who struggle to identify specialists or follow treatment steps.

In a separate technological advancement, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Aletta, the first robot designed for blood sampling in medical centers and ambulances. The system utilizes infrared technology and ultrasound to locate veins, even when difficult to see. While the robot automates steps like needle insertion and sample collection, it requires a healthcare professional to initiate and supervise the procedure. This technology aims to address staffing shortages by allowing a single professional to oversee up to three devices simultaneously.
