Healthcare transparency and funding issues raised in Croatia and Bosnia
In Croatia, a patient rights association has launched an anonymous questionnaire for healthcare workers to report systemic irregularities. Aimed at marking World Patient Safety Day, the 23-question survey allows staff to report issues such as corruption, bullying, labor rights violations, shortages of medical equipment or personnel, and procurement irregularities. The initiative seeks to provide a safe space for employees to highlight risks to patient safety and the integrity of medical documentation without fear of retaliation.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) has responded to allegations regarding its Pediatric Clinic. The institution stated that while it respects employees' rights to political engagement, political campaigns must not be used to spread inaccurate information that undermines public trust or causes fear among parents. KCUS defended its recent investments, noting that funding for the Pediatric Clinic has increased from approximately 85,000 KM annually between 2016 and 2024 to roughly 430,000 KM annually over the last three years. The center also emphasized increased spending on medical equipment and physician specialization to address previous staffing and development challenges.
