Healthleap raises $38M to expand AI patient screening
Healthleap, a San Francisco-based healthcare AI startup, has raised $38 million in combined seed and Series A funding. The investment round included participation from Sequoia Capital, First Round Capital, and Hummingbird Ventures.
The company’s platform integrates directly into existing electronic health record (EHR) systems to screen hospitalized patients for undiagnosed or overlooked conditions. Currently, the technology focuses on identifying malnutrition by analyzing clinical data such as weight, BMI, lab results, and vital signs. The AI generates a priority score for clinicians, allowing them to identify high-risk patients within their existing workflows without needing separate applications.
Healthleap plans to use the new capital to expand its screening capabilities to include other conditions, such as congestive heart failure, aspiration pneumonia, delirium, pressure ulcers, and certain hospital-acquired infections. The platform is already utilized by more than 50 hospitals, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai, and Houston Methodist.
