Healthleap secures $38M to expand clinical AI diagnostic platform
Healthleap, a clinical artificial intelligence startup founded in South Africa in 2022, has secured $38 million in combined seed and Series A funding. The investment includes an $8 million seed round co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital, and a $30 million Series A round led by Hummingbird Ventures.
The company’s platform analyzes electronic health records (EHR)—including physician notes, laboratory results, and vital signs—to generate clinical risk scores. This allows medical staff to identify patients at risk of undiagnosed conditions within their existing workflows. While the technology initially focused on detecting hospital malnutrition, the company plans to expand its diagnostic capabilities to include congestive heart failure, pressure ulcers, hospital-acquired infections, and delirium.
Healthleap’s technology is currently utilized in over 50 hospitals, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai, Houston Methodist, and Emory Healthcare. The new capital will be used to scale engineering, product development, sales, and customer success teams.
