Healthy kitchen alternatives and food storage practices

Experts and culinary professionals are highlighting safer alternatives to traditional kitchenware to avoid chemical contamination and microplastics. To prevent exposure to ‘forever chemicals’ (PFAS) often found in Teflon coatings, stainless steel and carbon steel pans are recommended as durable, non-toxic alternatives. Additionally, replacing plastic cutting boards with vertical-fiber wooden boards and switching from plastic containers to glass storage can reduce the risk of chemicals and microplastics leaching into food, especially when heating items.

Regarding food preservation, proper storage methods are essential for maintaining freshness and texture. For instance, storing tomatoes in the refrigerator can negatively impact their structure and flavor, potentially making them overly soft or watery. Instead, keeping them in a cool, dry, and ventilated area at room temperature is advised to preserve their quality.
