Heart Aerospace completes first flight of X1 electric aircraft
Heart Aerospace has successfully completed the first flight of its X1 demonstrator, which is recognized as the largest battery-electric aircraft to have flown to date. The test flight took place on August 12 at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York.
The 27-minute flight reached an altitude of approximately 335 meters (1,100 feet) and utilized a propulsion system delivering more than one megawatt of power. During the mission, the aircraft consumed electricity valued at approximately five dollars. The X1 has a wingspan of about 32 meters and a takeoff weight exceeding 11 tons.
The X1 is a full-scale demonstrator designed to gather data for the development of the ES-30, a 30-seat hybrid-electric regional airliner. The ES-30 is intended to fly up to 200 kilometers on battery power alone or 800 kilometers using a hybrid system. Heart Aerospace aims to begin commercial service for the ES-30 around 2031, with flight tests scheduled for 2028.
