Heart Aerospace completes first piloted flight of Heart X1 electric aircraft

Heart Aerospace has successfully completed the first piloted test flight of its Heart X1, an all-electric experimental aircraft. The flight took place at Plattsburgh Airport in New York, where the aircraft reached an altitude of 335 meters and remained airborne for 27 minutes using a powertrain exceeding 1 megawatt.

The Heart X1 features a 32-meter wingspan and a takeoff weight of approximately 11 tons. The company noted the high efficiency of the flight, stating that the electricity required to lift the plane cost only about 5 dollars (or 50 SEK).

This aircraft serves as a critical testbed for the company’s upcoming ES-30 passenger plane. The ES-30 is designed to carry up to 36 passengers and utilize a hybrid-electric system to achieve an operational range of approximately 800 kilometers, compared to 200 kilometers on pure electric power. This hybrid approach is intended to provide the necessary energy reserves for safety and diversions. Heart Aerospace aims to reduce aviation costs and emissions by targeting the regional travel market, specifically the 50 to 500-mile flight segment.
