Cardiovascular disease tops mortality in Valencia region in 2025

Provisional data from the Conselleria de Sanidad show that diseases of the circulatory system were the leading cause of death in the Valencian Community in 2025, accounting for 13,057 deaths or 27.5 % of the 47,555 total fatalities. Women were most affected, with 28.4 % of female deaths attributed to circulatory problems, while for men the condition ranked second after tumours.

Cancer remained the second overall cause of death, responsible for 12,381 deaths (26 % of the total). The five most frequent causes of mortality were: circulatory diseases, tumours, respiratory diseases (11.1 % of deaths), nervous‑system disorders (7.2 %), and digestive‑system diseases (5.3 %).

A separate report for the city of Valencia in 2024 listed cancer as the top cause of death, driven by lung cancer, followed by strokes, heart attacks and Alzheimer’s disease, highlighting gender differences in incidence and hospital outcomes.
