Heart failure rates surge among younger adults worldwide
New data from the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) 2026 Report indicates a significant rise in heart failure among younger adults. While heart failure was traditionally associated with the elderly, mortality rates between 2001 and 2020 increased by 121% for adults aged 25 to 44 and by 96% for those aged 45 to 64.
In the United States, approximately 7.7 million adults are living with heart failure, a figure projected to reach 11.4 million by 2050. Experts attribute this trend to rising rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes in younger populations, alongside sedentary lifestyles.
In response to the growing cardiovascular disease burden, the Orange County Heart and Stroke Ball raised over $1.1 million to support the American Heart Association. This funding aims to advance research, prevention, and education efforts to combat the rising costs and health impacts of heart disease and stroke.
