Heat advisories issued in Puerto Rico and Canary Islands

Extreme heat conditions are affecting multiple regions, prompting weather warnings in Puerto Rico and the Canary Islands.

In Puerto Rico, a heat advisory is in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. due to a dry air mass. Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 89°F, with a heat index as high as 103°F. Strong east-southeast winds and a moderate risk of rip currents are also expected along the northern and eastern coasts, including Culebra and Vieques.

In Spain, the Government of the Canary Islands has activated a pre-alert for high temperatures specifically for the islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Effective from 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, the measure follows analysis from the State Meteorological Agency. Authorities recommend that elderly individuals, minors, and those with chronic illnesses take precautions, such as avoiding direct sun exposure during midday and maintaining hydration.
