Heat pump system potentially cheaper than gas heating over 25 years
A model calculation by energy provider 1Komma5° suggests that an integrated electrical heating system can be more cost-effective than a traditional gas heating system over a 25-year period.
The calculation compares a €10,000 gas heating installation against a financed combination of a solar power system, a storage unit, and a heat pump, which carries higher initial costs of approximately €60,000. When factoring in a €16,500 KfW subsidy and interest rates of 5.99%, the model shows the electrical system could be roughly €12,450 cheaper over the long term.
Key drivers of these savings include lower operational costs. By utilizing a solar system to generate roughly 10,925 kWh annually and employing intelligent controls to manage electricity purchases and surplus sales, monthly energy costs for the heat pump and household could be reduced to approximately €42. In contrast, the model estimates annual gas and electricity costs for a gas-based system to exceed €3,500.
