Heat pump technology offers energy savings and floor cooling
New calculations from Dimplex Benelux indicate that Edel heat pump boilers can reduce expected energy costs for hot water by 45% compared to modern gas boilers. For Dutch households, these savings range from approximately €110 annually for two people to €329 for six people, based on calculations using grid electricity alone.
Homeowners can further decrease grid reliance by using surplus solar energy during the day to heat water and store it for later use. Because these boilers extract most of their required energy from the ambient air, they consume significantly less electricity than traditional heating methods.
Additionally, heat pump systems can be utilized for floor cooling. By circulating cool water (typically between 16 and 20 °C) through existing underfloor heating pipes, air-to-water heat pumps can provide energy-efficient cooling. While this method does not produce the intense cold of an air conditioner, it offers a consistent indoor climate without cold drafts. Geothermal heat pumps often provide passive cooling, utilizing natural ground temperatures to keep electricity consumption exceptionally low.
