Greece faces hot weather with temperatures up to 38 °C on July 16‑17, 2026
A high‑pressure ridge over the Balkans keeps Greece under clear to partly cloudy skies on Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July 2026. Temperatures are expected to stay between 33 °C and 35 °C across most of the country, reaching 36 °C‑37 °C inland and up to 38 °C in western lowlands. The Aegean islands will see north‑easterly winds of 5‑6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort.
Scattered afternoon clouds may bring brief local showers and isolated thunderstorms in mountainous areas of Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, the Pindus range and the northern Peloponnese. No major temperature change is forecast for the two days, but meteorologists note that a cooler air mass from central Europe is expected to arrive early next week, bringing relief from the current heat wave.
