Very High Fire Risk Issued for Crete on Wednesday
The Greek Fire‑Risk Map predicts a very high wildfire danger (category 4) for Crete on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, and the same level of risk for the North Aegean region. Civil‑protection services and technical units have been placed on alert in the affected zones. Residents are urged to report any fire immediately to the fire service via 199 or 112. Strong north‑easterly winds of up to 8‑9 Beaufort (about 100 km/h) are forecast for the Aegean Sea, increasing the likelihood of rapid fire spread. Temperatures are expected to reach 37‑38 °C in mainland Greece, while a 48‑hour red fire alert covers large parts of the country.
