Heat Wave Spurs Clothing and Pet Safety Advice in Czechia and Slovakia

Experts advise that during extreme heat, breathable natural fabrics such as linen, cotton and high‑quality viscose, along with loose cuts and light colours, help the body dissipate sweat and lower thermal load. Tight or poorly ventilated synthetic garments can impede evaporative cooling, leading to faster fatigue. Grooming and simple hairstyles are also recommended to stay comfortable in tropical temperatures.

Veterinarians warn that dogs cope with heat mainly through rapid panting, which becomes less effective in high humidity or poorly ventilated indoor spaces. Signs of overheating include restlessness, excessive panting, drooling, weakness or abnormal behaviour. Puppies, senior dogs, overweight animals, thick‑coated breeds and brachycephalic (short‑snouted) dogs are especially vulnerable. Owners should provide shade, fresh water, cool flooring and avoid prolonged exercise during the hottest parts of the day.
