Heat‑action events in German towns bring generations together
In the town of Haag, the municipal library organised a Bavarian‑dialect afternoon at the senior home St. Kunigund. Two primary‑school pupils and three confirmation candidates read humorous poems and short stories in Bavarian, followed by a quiz where senior residents identified traditional Bavarian expressions. The event, supported by library staff and volunteers, concluded with refreshments including coffee, pastries and watermelon, strengthening intergenerational bonds.
Meanwhile, the Grund‑ und Mittelschule Bergkirchen hosted a heat‑action day co‑ordinated by the BKK ProVita health insurance, the municipal youth office and the school. Children attended a presentation on plant‑based, climate‑friendly nutrition, prepared and ate healthy dishes, visited information stands, and experienced VR‑based relaxation zones. The programme also featured climate‑rally activities that taught students how to identify heat sources and find shaded cooling spots. School rector Daniela Artmann and mayor Dagmar Wagner praised the collaboration for promoting health, sustainability and heat‑protection for young people.
Both initiatives aimed to help residents cope with unusually high temperatures, promote healthy lifestyle choices and foster community interaction across age groups.
