Heatbit launches Bitwater Bitcoin-mining water heater
Delaware-based company Heatbit has unveiled Bitwater, a residential heating element designed to mine Bitcoin while heating water. The device replaces the standard resistive coil in existing electric water tanks with mining chips that perform SHA-256 hashing. The waste heat generated by the computation is used to warm the water, allowing the device to function as a dual-purpose appliance.
Technical specifications indicate the hardware delivers up to 34 TH/s of hashing power with an efficiency rating of 12 J/TH. The system utilizes a built-in cooling mechanism where the water being heated acts as a coolant, which Heatbit claims allows for quiet operation without loud fans. Users can participate in pooled mining for proportional rewards in satoshis or use a solo lottery mode to attempt to mine entire blocks.
Preorders for the device opened on October 22, 2026, with the first shipments expected in the first quarter of 2027. While the product is designed for American water heater standards, international availability and compatibility with local plumbing and electrical systems may vary.
