Heat‑driven insect infestation spikes in Mexican border city

Rising summer temperatures and humidity have triggered a rapid increase in ants, bedbugs, beetles and mosquitoes in a border city of Mexico. Municipal Ecology Director César Díaz Gutiérrez warned that the heat accelerates insect metabolism and breeding cycles, prompting the pests to seek shelter inside homes.

The most vulnerable neighborhoods include Riberas del Bravo, Parajes de San Isidro, Senderos de San Isidro, Horizontes del Sur, Los Kilómetros, Granjas, Felipe Ángeles and Lomas de San José. Residents are advised to keep spaces dry, eliminate standing water, seal cracks, and maintain deep cleaning. Specific actions for each pest are recommended, such as washing bedding at temperatures above 60 °C, using high‑heat drying for clothes, vacuuming mattresses daily, removing water containers, using mosquito nets, storing food in sealed containers, and switching outdoor lighting to yellow or warm LED.

The municipality offers free fumigation services to anyone who requests it via WhatsApp (656‑756‑7793) or the office line (656‑737‑0885). After a request, a folio number is generated and staff contact the citizen to arrange treatment.
