Heather Bellamy releases memoir on aid work in Afghanistan

Heather Bellamy, a resident of Terrace, has released a memoir titled ‘A Way Between Hearts’ that chronicles her two decades of providing aid to Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The book begins with a lengthy prologue detailing Bellamy’s relationship with Cal Dexter, an American government employee in Islamabad. Following Dexter’s death from leukemia in September 2001, Bellamy spent time in British Columbia writing before returning to her work as an aid worker.

A central focus of the memoir is the development of the Women’s and Family Park in Bamiyan, located in the remote central highlands of Afghanistan. After spending five years in Kabul helping to establish a women’s park, Bellamy secured a long-term lease to create a similar safe space for women and children in Bamiyan despite a limited budget.
