Heather Matarazzo risks losing SAG-AFTRA health insurance
Actress Heather Matarazzo has disclosed that she is at risk of losing her union health insurance coverage due to failing to meet the minimum earnings required by SAG-AFTRA.
Matarazzo shared her situation on social media, noting that she is in the “same boat” as actor Jack Haven, who recently went viral after seeking work to meet a $4,000 shortfall for insurance eligibility. Under current SAG-AFTRA rules, members must meet a specific “earned eligibility” threshold to qualify for health benefits. For the 2026 benefit year, performers must earn at least $28,090 in covered union work, with the requirement expected to rise to $28,933 for 2027.
The actress noted that many of her colleagues face similar financial instability. While Haven successfully secured project offers following a public plea, Matarazzo has not indicated whether her disclosure has resulted in new bookings. The rising annual threshold highlights the challenges actors face in maintaining consistent employment and benefits within the entertainment industry.
