Heating costs in Romania expected to vary by region
Heating costs in Romania are expected to vary significantly across different cities this winter due to varying subsidy levels and infrastructure conditions. While some local councils have decided to maintain heating prices at last year's levels, others face higher costs. In Constanța, subsidies of nearly 75% are being used to cover the real price of gigacalories.
In Timișoara, heating a three-room apartment for four people could cost nearly 800 lei during a cold month. Officials attribute these costs to the state of production facilities and the high cost of pollution certificates for coal-based production. In Iași, authorities are focusing on protecting elderly and low-income populations from price hikes.
For residents not connected to centralized systems, the Ministry of Energy estimates that natural gas prices will remain comparable to last year. However, the cost of installing individual condensing boilers has risen by approximately 30% over the last two years due to increased prices for materials and labor. A condensing boiler for an apartment up to 120 square meters costs approximately 4,000 lei, excluding installation, accessories, and plumbing components.
