Heating fuel prices in Poland show volatility and rising costs
Heating fuel prices in Poland are showing significant volatility and increases. The median price for coal (orzech and kostka) is approximately 1800 PLN per ton, though premium varieties in private distribution can exceed 2500 PLN per ton. In certain regions like Jarocin, local prices for ekogroszek reach between 1900 and 2000 PLN per ton, while purchasing through the Polish Mining Group (PGG) remains cheaper at roughly 1530–1560 PLN per ton, though these stocks often sell out within minutes.
Pellet prices have seen a sharp rise, with reports indicating a 52 percent year-on-year increase. The median price for pellet is currently estimated between 2200 and 2500 PLN per ton. Due to these rising costs, experts from the Polish Smog Alarm (PAS) note that switching to ground-source heat pumps can reduce annual heating costs for a standard 150 m² home by up to 8000 PLN compared to using pellet. Other heating methods, such as natural gas and heating oil, result in annual costs ranging from approximately 8676 PLN to 14880 PLN.
