Heating season safety preparations

As temperatures drop, residents are advised to prepare for the upcoming heating season by prioritizing safety and equipment maintenance. Key recommendations include inspecting stoves, boilers, and chimneys for cracks, leaks, or damage before use.

To prevent fires, chimneys should be cleaned of soot and combustion products. It is essential to use only appropriate, dry fuel; burning treated wood, household waste, or chemically processed materials should be avoided as they increase pollution and soot buildup.

Safety measures also include maintaining a safe distance between heating appliances and flammable materials, using a non-combustible base (at least 70 x 50 cm) under stoves, and disposing of hot ashes only in non-combustible containers with lids. Additionally, testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is highly recommended to ensure household safety.
