Heating season begins in Sarajevo and several Croatian cities

The 2026/2027 heating season is commencing in several Balkan regions. In Sarajevo, KJKP Toplane Sarajevo has announced that all production and distribution facilities are technically ready. Due to current weather conditions meeting the regulatory threshold of average daily temperatures being 12 degrees Celsius or lower, the delivery of thermal energy to the Sarajevo Canton will officially begin on Monday, October 12. The heating regime is set to operate daily from 06:00 to 22:00.

Simultaneously, HEP-Toplinarstvo has announced the gradual activation of heating systems starting October 12 in several Croatian cities, including Zagreb, Osijek, Sisak, Velika Gorica, Samobor, and Zaprešić. The rollout will prioritize essential institutions such as kindergartens, schools, health centers, and homes for the elderly before expanding to residential and business buildings. Authorities in both regions have advised citizens on energy efficiency, recommending optimal indoor temperatures of approximately 20°C to manage consumption.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, hotels on Jahorina are also preparing for the upcoming winter season, facing challenges in recruiting seasonal staff for the hospitality sector. While many employers are seeking domestic workers, there is an increasing trend toward hiring foreign nationals to meet growing capacity demands.
