Heatstroke Death Confirmed in Chihuahua, Mexico Amid Extreme Temperatures

The health authorities of Chihuahua state confirmed the first fatality caused by heatstroke during the current extreme‑temperature season. The death occurred in the municipality of Delicias, as reported by Gumaro Barrios Gallegos, head of the state's Epidemiology Office. In the same period, two other suspected heat‑related deaths were reported: an adult man found dead on a public road and a 4‑year‑old boy who died while trapped in a vehicle. Forensic officials from the state prosecutor's office are awaiting autopsy results to verify the cause of death. Overall, the state has recorded 12 heat‑related incidents, including seven heatstroke cases, two solar‑stroke cases and three sun‑burn injuries, with the municipalities of Ojinaga and Delicias showing the highest numbers. Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak UV exposure, stay hydrated, wear protective clothing, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

The health department reiterated that prompt medical attention for symptoms such as severe headache, dizziness, fever or loss of consciousness can prevent serious complications or death.
